We will opt for self-defence if Makinde fails to protect – Oyo OPC

The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) has declared that it would have no option than to resolve into self-defence if government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde and all relevant security agencies fail to protect his members at Oopo, Inalende, Abebi and its environ against the attack from the hoodlums and cultists in the area.

The declaration was made on Saturday afternoon by the Oyo State Coordinator of OPC, Rotimi Olumo at a press conference held at the Group’s state Secretariat, Yemetu, Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.

Olumo said these gang boys that attacked and killed three of his members are not only hoodlums and cultists in the day but they are armed robbers in the night.

Olumo explained that the trouble started when these hoodlums  robbed some residents of their valuables and one of them was apprehended by OPC members  and traced others to their hideout and later reported the matter at the Mokola Divisional Police station.

Olumo disclosed that initially when the attack occurred he reported to the Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, who instructed him to appeal to his members, which he did.

Stressing that few hours after his members ceased fire, these hoodlums went to attack them at their various houses killing three of OPC members.

According to Olumo, “Not that we are afraid to fight them but because we have a name to protect as peace and law abiding group, that’s why we are calling on Governor Seyi Makinde and other security agencies to intervene.

“We cannot fold our arms for hoodlums, cultists and armed robbers to be taken our lives. We may not have better option that to resolve into self help and defence if government fails to act immediately.

“It is in our known that they are still planning to attack our members because they believe we are threats to them. If don’t allow them to rob people of their valuables. They are not only hoodlums and cultists but armed robbers.
