OYRTMA: Angry Drivers Attack Officials, Set Patrol Vehicle Ablaze in Ibadan

Five officials of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Agency (OYTMA), have been attacked and injured by the heavy truck drivers at Akinyele trailer park.


OYTMA commander, Mr Adeoye Ayoade, who led journalists to scene of the incident explained that over 50 truck drivers and their attendants launched a deadly attack on the OYTMA officials while performing their traffic management responsibility and burnt one of the agency patrol vans in the process.


He noted that five of the drivers Including their attendants who attacked the OYTMA officials have been arrested by the police.


An eyewitness who doubles as the chairman, Hausa Community, Akinyele trailer park, Alhaji Yero Abubarka, lamented the barbaric attitude of some of the truck drivers and called for a robust Investigation.

He empathised with the management and staff of the agency whose officers were injured by the unruly drivers, artisans and roadside traders.


In his remark, the Alakinyele of Akinyele, Oba James Odeniran, frowned at the incident but pleaded with government to temper justice with mercy.


Speaking with journalists at the spot of the dastardly act, the police are still searching for some of the alleged perpetrators of the evil acts, they have been declared wanted.Their names are Mr Wasiu Yaqub, alias Legelege; Mrs Sikira Wasiu alias iyalaje and Mr Alaga Olu.


Addressing the press in his office, the Executive chairman, Oyo state Road Transport Management Authority, Mogaji Dr Akin Fagbemi said the agency would not relent in bringing sanity to the traffic situation in Oyo state. He urged motorists to comply with the traffic laws of the state.
