Controversy: Who is the Jagunmolu of Ibadan Land, Gen. Raji Rasaki or Gov. Makinde?

Controversy has trailed Sunday’s Olubadan of Ibadanland decision, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Adetunji Ajé Ògúngúnnísò I, conferring the title of Jagunmolu of Ibadanland on Governor Seyi Mskinde of Oyo state.

The revered monarch, Oba Adetunji made the disclosure when he visited the Government House for a reception held in honour of Governor Makinde by the Ibadan Progressive Union (IPU).
The formal installation is expected to be done at a convenient date to be announced by the palace.

“At the Government House Agodi, this evening, our royal father, His Imperial Majesty, Ọba Sálíù Àkànmú Ọlásùpò Adétúnjí, Ajé Ògúngúnnísò I, Olúbàdàn of Ìbàdàn conferred the title of Jagunmólú of Ibadanland on me, at a reception held in my honour by Ibadan Progressive Union.

At the same reception, I was invested with the title, Distinguished Member of Ibadan Progressive Union. As you may know, my father also belonged to this club. I am deeply humbled by these honours and the affirmation and confidence reposed in me”.

Also, one of the monarch’s aides, Yanju Adegboye on his Facebook page said, “Seyi Makinde di Jagunmolu ile Ibadan”, meaning; Seyi Makinde has become the Jagunmolu of Ibadanland.

Unless the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Adetunji addresses this development officially, the move could become the laughing stock of the neighbouring states, sources said.

However, Opera News investigations revealed that a retired Nigerian military officer who was military governor in turn of Ogun, Ondo and Lagos State s between 1986 and 1991 during the military administration of General Ibrahim Babangida , Brigadier General Raji Alagbe Rasaki from Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo state is the Jagunmolu of Ibadanland.

The hale and hearty General Rasaki whose chieftaincy title was properly documented and officially addressed by the palace was installed by the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Yesufu Oloyede Asanike I, who reigned between 1982-1994.

According to Tawfiq Akinwale, ” General Raji Alagbe RASAKI is the Jagunmolu of IBADANLAND, may Allah preserve and live long. I repeat The Jagunmolu of IBADANLAND is Chief Raji Alagbe Rasaki. GSM could be given Gbobaniyi or …. The late Yesufu Oloyede Asanike had installed one there wouldn’t be another one for now”

Also, a Facebook account with the name – Abiola Oyeyemi Olubadan posted, “General Raji Razaki Alagbe is the current Jagunmolu of Ibadan land. I don’t know where your GSM got his own title from”.
“Tawfiq Akinwale, Could the Olubadan have made such mistake?”, Ismaila Ashipa questioned.

Despite the tweet made by Governor Seyi Makinde, his party faithfuls, the PDP and sympathizers are struggling hard to change the earlier narrative saying the title was Aare Jagunmolu. It is obvious that the Olubadan would have corrected the error due to public out cry.

But, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Adetunji is yet to make any official statement or reaction as regards the controversial chieftaincy title – ‘Jagunmolu of Ibadanland’
